Jürg Frey’s Buch der Räume und Zeiten (Book of Spaces and Times) is written for two players who choose from 23 different parts for a performance. This yields 253 possible combinations for the piece.
In December of 2016, I revisited this score and thought it would be interesting to have each part recorded, making a complete recording of the work a possibility. With a blessing from Jürg, the agreement of David McIntire (Irritable Hedgehog), and the cooperation of artists from the United States, Chile, England, Switzerland, and Germany, we began work on the project in March of 2017.
